Darren Trippick

Darren founded Fairlop Rowing Club in 2013 after securing London Marathon Trust funding following the 2012 Olympics. He learnt to row in 2015, became a volunteer coach in 2017 and has not looked back since.

As Treasurer, Darren liaises with funding bodies and local government to secure sponsorship and funding for the club. He also handles all of our payments and insurances and looks after our accounts.

Head Coach

CJ White

CJ learnt to row when he was 14. After injury prevented him from progressing to the Olympics he fell into a coaching role and hasn't looked back since. CJ helped Darren set up Fairlop Rowing Club and has been head coach since 2017.

As Head Coach, CJ devises our training programmes and manages the junior squad. As Chairman, CJ leads the committee in shaping the club's vision and future

Secretary

Jeremy Martin

Jeremy began rowing on the Thames at Hammersmith in 1977 as a schoolboy and is still at it nearly half a century later!

As club secretary, Jeremy is responsible for organising meetings, keeping club records, and dealing with correspondence.

Press Officer

Margaret McGuire

Margaret learnt to row at Fairlop Rowing Club in 2020 and has loved being part of some of the club’s more adventurous rowing challenges.

As Press Officer, Margaret creates our club newsletter and, along with Hans, looks after our social media. She is also our liaison with the press

Club Captain

Kevin Spence

Kevin learnt to row while he was at his high school. He returned to masters rowing in 2012 and holds medals from national (in South Africa) and international (in Hungary) competition wins. He is a level 2 FISA-qualified rowing coach and is registered British Rowing coach.

As Club Captain, Kevin organises race participation andmanages the senior squad.

Fairlop Rowing Club has a vacancy on the committee for the role of Welfare Officer. Please get in touch with the club Secretary if you would like to find out more.

Boats and Facilities Manager

Samir Patel

Samir learnt to row at Fairlop Rowing Club in 2016 and, despite capsizing in icy water during his first outing in a single, kept coming back.

As Boats and Facilities Manager, Samir is responsible for maintenance and upkeep of our boats, trailer, boat house and grounds which includes repairs, renovations and safety checks. Along with Aleks, Samir is trained to drive our power boats and so plays a key role in keeping us all safe.

Membership Secretary

Gerry Green

Gerry learnt to row at Fairlop Rowing Club in January2016. He enjoys continuing to learn and improve his rowing and says he’s never looked back (except when sat at bow…)

As Membership Secretary, Gerry organises our Learn 2Row (L2R) courses and maintains our membership database. He looks forward to meeting you at one of ourL2R courses, or as a someone returning to the sport!

Indoor Rowing Captain

Richard Pruce

Richard learnt to row at Fairlop Rowing Club in 2017. After buying a rowing machine and entering the British Rowing Indoor Championships (BRIC), he panicked and looked for advice! Training with CJ and at Fairlop helped him achieve a PB, and he currently holds BRIC and World Rowing Indoor Championship records.

As Indoor Rowing Captain, Richard co-ordinates indoor rowing for L2R and winter challenges. He also organises race participation for indoor races.

Social Secretary

Aleksandra Sarzynska

Aleks learnt to row at Fairlop Rowing Club in 2020 and can often be seen at Fairlop with her beautiful dog (and unofficial club mascot) Nala. She has played a key role organising large events for the club including socials and our more adventurous rowing challenges.

As Social Secretary, Aleks co-ordinates our events calendar and organises club kit. Along with Samir, Aleks is trained to drive our power boats and so plays a key role in keeping us all safe.

Safety Officer

Amy Partridge

Amy was a member of the junior squad at Fairlop Rowing Club before she went to university.

As Safety Officer, Amy ensures club compliance with British Rowing safety guidance and ensures incidents are correctly reported. Amy organises safety training and updates members of the club on safety matters.

Treasurer

Hans Chan

Hans discovered rowing in 2012 at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club. He completed his L2R at Fairlop Rowing Club almost 10 years later.

As a Committee member, Hans contributes to the management of the club. Hans also works with Margaret on the club’s social media and assists with L2R sessions.
